Hannah says: "I have been playing table tennis in a club since I was 9 years old. Besides that I like sport activities like football, cycling, swimming, running or basketball...Furthermore I enjoy listening to music really much and that is why I have been singing in our school choir since 2011...One of my biggest hobbies is it to take photographs. On my 17th birthday I got my own camera and since then I have taken thousands of pictures...I want to explain why I have the dream of being an au pair in America. The most important thing is that I love kids and to care for them. Moreover I get the chance to live in your family and to learn something about the American way of life or about your traditions and culture...I think that I will be able to improve my English skills and to get more confidence and responsibility and this will help me in my later life."

Melanie says: "My passion is dancing. I just love to dance! It is a great way of expressing your feelings, if you feel good or bad, it is always a song there for your feelings. But I also like doing photography, singing, playing saxophone or just going to the cinema or to the swimming pool with my friends...Every January I am part of the organization "carolers". I have a group of three kids and we walk around to collect some donations for poor children...when I see the smiling faces of the people when we sing for them and see that we can help other people in a poor country, it always makes me smile and proud to be part of it."

I have competed on a high level (the Danish championship) and have often helped train teams of younger figure skaters. For the past three years I've had a spare time job with Stena Line, Frederikshavn. I like the responsibilities in my job and take pride in earning my own paycheck. Lily says: "I love spending time with children too. That is probably because I am almost 8 years older than my little brother so my parents used to ask me to look after him. Secondly, my mother works in a nursery school, and has always been passionate by her job. She probably passed me this down. That is why I started babysitting when I was about 15...I have had 4 main children to care for : the first one was Youenn (born in 2007). I started caring for him every Wednesday afternoon when he was less than 1 year. Almost 3 years, later, he had a little brother, Pierrick."

Imm says: "I also would love to talk about my working experiences with children. I wanted to gain more childcare experience with babies, so I decided to help one of my neighbors taking care of Atom; he is a 6 months old baby boy. I was feeding him, playing with him, taking him for a walk, changing diapers, bathing and getting him dressed and putting him to sleep. Atom always had a good mood and he seemed to be very happy all day. I could feel that we get along quite well and had a really great time together. I care about him so much. Moreover, I was training at a daycare center for children. There I worked with group of children aged 2-5 years old. My main duties were leading the children to do activities, playing games, drawing, painting, teaching the children to sing and dance, feeding and putting them to sleep. I really like doing activities with children. They always make me smile. The children and I became good friends and we had a lot of fun playing together."

Laura says: "I go to a German school in Lisbon, and attending an international school has a lot of advantages. The school has students from different nationalities, which helps me communicate with every type of person. Moreover I can fluently speak four different languages - Portuguese, German, English and French...I've been swimming in my free time since 2009 and I love it. I have other hobbies. I like to play volleyball and tennis and I love doing voluntary work. I adore the idea of being able to help other people that are in need of help...I want to be au pair because I love children. I like to care for them, to play with them and to see them grow up. I would be delighted to bring the German and Portuguese cultures closer to an American host family."

Mila says: "I also took care of Adus, Zosia and Angela. Angela is my little neighbor and I have known her since she was a small baby. First time when I stayed alone with her, she was 2. Then I have spent time with her regularly, it was few hours a week. I took care of Adus (he was 1 year 3 moths) during Christmas break and during the weekends. I have been changing his diapers, feeding him and putting him to bed. Zosia (2 years old) was a very cute toddler. She had a lot of energy to play. It was also unforgettable moments when she said her first words and made her first steps in front of me. Taking care of children taught me how to be more patient, gentle and calm."
