Regional Update

Regional Presence:
Au Pair In America has more than 30 clusters in Connecticut and New York. The majority of the families live in Westchester and Fairfield Counties but population centers are served across both states.

Region 9/99 has been enjoying spring! Au Pairs in Fairfield County (CT) have put on their running shoes! Several clusters participated in the "Daffodil Dash" 5k Run held in Cranbury Park in Norwalk, CT. Benefits from this event went to the Town and Country Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten.

Sneakers will be donned again on June 6 when Fairfield County and New Haven County Au Pairs will participate in the Hope for Motion walk for the benefit of breast cancer. The walk is sponsored by the Bennet Cancer Center in Stamford, CT. We'll be joining hundreds of people in support of this wonderful cause.

Regional Representative:
Gail Tomanelli, Regional Representative for Region 9, CT and NY, joined APIA in 1991 as a Community Counselor in Greenwich, CT. She became the Regional Representative for this very busy region of 32 clusters in 1996. Her responsibilities in this position include:

Interview and train new CCs
Realignment of cluster territories
Support of the field staff
Support of region's marketing efforts
Liaison between management and field
Arrange and facilitate meetings for the region's counselors
Special projects

Gail is the proud mother of a "Rock Journalist" and a student at Muhlenburg College. She recently completed an MBA at UCONN.

Educational Information for Au Pairs

The information listed here is your starting point to fulfilling the education requirement. Your community counselor will have the most popular and affordable choices in your area.

The schools listed here are not all reasonable options. Ask your community counselor for the schools closest to you.

Continuing Education (also Adult Education or Lifelong Learning) classes are generally the most affordable options for au pairs.

Review the cost, class schedule, and transportation needed for the classes you are interested in with your host family. You need to be responsible about selecting courses that meet at times that will not conflict with your work schedule. Take into consideration the time it will take to travel between home and the campus. Your host family must approve your plans.

Host families reimburse tuition costs and costs of related materials (books and supplies) up to $500 ($1000 for EduCare) for you to complete your six semester hours (12 for EduCare), or the equivalent. You are responsible for all payments for tuition, fees, books and materials that exceed the host family’s contribution. Education money is not paid to you in cash if you do not use the complete amount.
