State Information
Au Pair in America in Delaware
Regional Update
Regional Presence:
Au Pair in America has 23 clusters in Region II. Region II includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. We have clusters throughout the state of New Jersey while our Pennsylvania clusters are in and around Philadelphia and our Delaware cluster serves the Wilmington area. The Region has about 700 Host Families.
Our clusters enjoy the benefits of living near large cities, and the Au Pairs enjoy what those cities offer. In addition, they enjoy the small monthly cluster meetings in their own communities. Multi-cluster activities are planned several times a year. These meetings enable Au Pairs from many clusters to meet together. There is opportunity for a wide variety of the "American Experience" in the region.
Quarterly Message:
January 2010
New Year’s Eve in NYC’s Time Square will be the hot spot for many of our region’s au pairs on December 31. And, after ringing in 201...snow tubing, ski trips, and lots of hot chocolate! The buzz at cluster meetings will be Sun Trek tour talks and childcare topics including dressing for the cold weather and how to entertain your host children indoors when it is cold outside. For many au pairs – this is their first experience with snow and cold weather – fun!
Regional Representative:
Denise Eliopoulos joined Au Pair in America in 2002 as a Community Counselor and in January 2009 became the Regional Representative for New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Offering field support in the region, interviewing and training new counselors, planning meetings and supporting marketing efforts are the main responsibilities of a Regional Representative. Denise also manages a large cluster in northern New Jersey. She has 3 children - all boys!

Educational Information for Au Pairs
The information listed here is your starting point to fulfilling the education requirement. Your community counselor will have the most popular and affordable choices in your area.
- The schools listed here are not all reasonable options. Ask your community counselor for the schools closest to you.
- Continuing Education (also Adult Education or Lifelong Learning) classes are generally the most affordable options for au pairs.
- Review the cost, class schedule, and transportation needed for the classes you are interested in with your host family. You need to be responsible about selecting courses that meet at times that will not conflict with your work schedule. Take into consideration the time it will take to travel between home and the campus. Your host family must approve your plans.
- Host families reimburse tuition costs and costs of related materials (books and supplies) up to $500 ($1000 for EduCare) for you to complete your six semester hours (12 for EduCare), or the equivalent. You are responsible for all payments for tuition, fees, books and materials that exceed the host family’s contribution. Education money is not paid to you in cash if you do not use the complete amount.
