Educational Information:
- Read details about the educational requirement at http://www.aupairinamerica.com/aupairs/education.htm.
- Ask your host family or counselor for help in choosing
colleges that are close to you.
- Visit those college websites to learn more about the
university, its programs of study, course offerings and
the cost of studying. There are admission counselors at
every college to answer your questions and help you. Check
the website for counseling information.
- Review the cost, class schedule and transportation needed
for the classes you are interested in with your host family.
You need to be responsible about selecting courses that
meet at times that will not conflict with your work schedule.
Take into consideration the time it will take to travel
between home and the campus. Your host family must approve
your plans.
- Your host family is advised to pay half of the total
education allowance during the first half of the year and
the balance during the second half of the year. Keep in
mind that you are responsible for all payments for tuition,
fees, books and materials that exceed the host family’s
contribution.
- Many schools allow you to apply and register online!
You should apply right away when you arrive in California
and then register for classes as soon as possible because
classes fill up quickly.
- If you need to take ESL classes, you will need to take
an ESL placement test. Check the school website for a list
of the days and times the test is given.
