On this calendar page you will find information about many of the holidays you might be hearing about, as well as some unusual special days. Some of the holidays are federal (or "legal") holidays, which means that there is no mail delivery and all government-run buildings (such as the libraries and schools) are closed. Most banks close on federal holidays as well. Some businesses are open, others are not; it is best to check locally. These holidays may be work days for au pairs.
