The Year Ahead
You get year round local counselors and support with Au Pair in America.
Your community counselor is there to help you throughout the exchange year. In addition to meeting with you during your interview, easing the placement process and conducting your orientation, your community counselor will contact you within 48 hours of your au pair / companion’s arrival, conduct an evaluation session within the first two weeks of her arrival and maintain monthly contact with you and your au pair / companion.
Cluster meetings
Community counselors conduct monthly “cluster” meetings where au pairs / companions share information, discuss issues and concerns, and socialize. Periodically the meetings focus on child care safety, age-appropriate activities and other related topics to encourage safe, effective child care. Community counselors also plan a special annual cultural event.
Feedback
Community counselors submit written reports to the Au Pair in America office on the status of the au pair / companion and host family relationship.
Host family workshop
A host family workshop is provided annually for families. The workshop will be held in your cluster area and may cover such topics as cultural adaptation or how to effectively make the transition from one care provider to the next at the end of the program. Attendance at an annual workshop is required for program participation.
As a host family, it is expected you will encourage and give your child care provider every opportunity to take advantage of the educational and cultural offerings in your community.
