Au Pair in America: live-in child care and cultural exchange.
Why choose Au Pair in America?

The right choice for your family!
Au Pair in America is the first legal au pair program in the U.S., sanctioned by the U.S. Government in 1986.  For more than 20 years, we have set the standard for U.S. State Department child-care regulations. Today, Au Pair in America remains the nation’s most trusted au pair program for infant and child care. Here’s why:

  • Au Pair in America (APIA) provides flexible, dependable child care with a culturally enriching experience for the entire family.  Our program options offer the widest choice of care and pricing, so, whatever your child care needs, we have the solution.
Up to 45 hours of care for approximately $301 per week—per family, not per child!
Also 45 hours, but the au pair has a formal educational child care degree or two years of full-time experience. The cost is approximately $364 per week.
Up to 30 hours of care for approximately $237 per week. This cost effective program for families with school age children is available in select communities.
These candidates have chosen to extend with a new placement for either 6, 9 or 12 months.
  • We match your needs with the largest applicant pool in the industry to find the perfect child-care match and cultural exchange experience for your family. We annually place more than 4,500 au pairs, ages 18 to 26, with documented child-care experience.  Applicants come from 55 countries on five continents, and our multi-tiered screening ensures that only the most exceptional and qualified au pairs are accepted.
  • For more than 20 years, thousands of host families have trusted Au Pair in America to provide au pairs who are fully screened and qualified beyond U.S. regulations.  But we don’t stop there. APIA offers the most extensive ongoing extensive orientation program and child safety training in the industry, including first-aid training by the American Red Cross.
  • 170 community counselors provide daily, ongoing, local support to host families and au pairs. Counselors are steeped in the love of cultural exchange, and their job is to provide the best guidance they can.  They have no quotas and do not work on commission, so when you need their help, there are no strings attached.
  • Our popular Global Awareness initiative helps promote multi-cultural understanding in your community’s elementary or middle school. And throughout the exchange year with your au pair, APIA promotes cultural fairs and charity events in your community that advance our mission to “bring the world together.”
  • Au Pair in America is a division of the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), providing cultural exchange programs for more than 40 years.  Our resources enable reliable visa processing, comprehensive insurance for au pairs and discounts for host families interested in any of AIFS’s renowned programs.
  • Applying is simple and convenient.  Our web-accessible application and matching process makes it easy. Before you know it, you could be reviewing au pair candidates that match your needs. Apply today.  Find out why 95% of host families recommend Au Pair in America.
